On behalf of Doorus National School pupils, staff and community, I would like to extend a warm ‘Céad míle fáilte‘ to you all.

Scoil Chiaráin Naofa / Doorus N.S. is situated on the stunning Doorus peninsula, approximately 4 km from Kinvarra village. Doorus N.S. is a rural school just a short stroll from Traught Beach, with the karst Burren scenery serving as our backdrop.

Scoil Chiaráin Naofa was established in 1955. The present school, built in 1955 in the townland of Cloosh, replaced the old National School which was first opened on January 1st, 1852.The area commands a long tradition of education with historical Hedge School sites geographically dotted on local survey maps. Thus, steeped in rich historical traditions, Doorus N.S. is an inclusive school with strong learning and pastoral ethos which aims to create an atmosphere where children feel safe and secure. Pupils are cared for, respected as individuals and given the best possible opportunity to reach their full potential in the classroom and beyond by a dedicated and committed school staff & community .

Scoil Chiaráin is home to over 80 pre-school and primary school pupils daily, on its campus!! A busy and exciting place to be!!

Scoil Chiaráin is equipped with many resources including three large equipped classrooms, an indoor hall/recreational room, a S.E.T classroom, a sensory room and an A.S.D. classroom. Attached to our school we have our spacious Montessori/preschool, top-notch Montessori playground, a main school playground, an astro turf and a school garden. Our I.T. resources are second to none as each child has access to a laptop or iPad. A bus service takes the children to and from school daily.

We are fortunate to have a Montessori/Preschool within the school grounds which also serves as an Early Breakfast Club as well as an After-School later in the day.  The children who attend the Preschool are very familiar and comfortable in the school building enabling them to make an easy transition into the main school by the time they continue their learning journey into Junior Infants.

Scoil Chiaráin is a daily bustle of activity as students venture into their classrooms, mastering  the learning objectives of the Primary School Curriculum but also engaging themselves in extra curricular activities on their journey through primary school. We place great emphasis on developing and nurturing the whole child. The child's personal talents and interests are encouraged and developed, building a solid foundation for lifelong learning and confidence. We love sport and participate in all sporting activities. We enjoy many daily magical sporting activities on our school Astro-turf or in our indoor sports hall. We partake in a variety of Sporting activities throughout the year including Hurling, Football, Basketball, Olympic Handball, Athletics, Co-operative Games, Tennis, Volleyball & Badminton. We provide opportunities for the children to take part in a number of fun activities throughout the year including our morning ‘Walk and Talk’ mindfulness, yoga, drama performances, playing tin whistle, after-school guitar classes, peaceproms, arts & crafts projects, baking, food dudes, outdoor field trips & excursions, I.T., Computer coding & scratch classes, science experiments, environmental activities and growing our own food and plants in our school garden.

We are a Green School and caring for our environment is important to us.

Our teachers exhibit a strong dedication to the education and well-being of each and everyone of our children and have received training in best techniques for instruction. Supporting our school daily, we are privileged with an active Parents’ Association, a dedicated Board of Management and supportive Patron, who all strive to provide the very best educational experience for our pupils.
